The engine in my 1973 blew about 2 months ago. Dumb reason, the oil started leaking way faster than normal & I didnt notice.

But I have a spare engine that has good compression & is really clean inside. Im going to drop that into my car.

Right now my car has all the parts taken of the engine, its just the block. Radiators out, battery trays out, Washer bottles out. Headers & Intake Manifold is off.

All thats connected is the transmission, which im gonna be disconnecting today& the motor mounts. Is it easy to take the motor out with an engine hoist? And drop the new one in?

The only worry I have is matching the trans up with the engine. How does that work? Also, any other tips/comments will be helpful and much appreciated. TIA.

Usually it's best to remove the transmission alongside the engine. Direct quote from the bedside Haynes manual: "On carburettor models it is recommended that the engine is removed together with the gearbox (or automatic transmission), as a combined unit.

This makes for easier alignment of the clutch/torque converter. It's hell trying to line that up otherwise.
