how bad is this?gearbox issue

i have a early 73 tii with the CR 235/5 getrag box in it,i was out driving last weekend and when i was going around the hills(foot flat of course) i noticed a pop noise while changing gear(no crunching of gears)didnt think much of it till i stopped and had it idling out of gear and had alot of vibration noise coming from the box(started to worry a bit) which got worse when i reved it,but noise went away when clutch is in.to me it sounds like a clutch release bearing is shot but i want a second opinion on the matter.it also shudders during take off in 1st and reverse.

any ideas would be appreciated

yer clutch is toast

your gearbox needs to come out so u can see

what's blown up

I don't think it's the clutch...

...I'd check the gearbox, especially the countershaft bearings,

before driving it more. The C/R boxes aren't cheap to fix.

But new bearings aren't hard.

Oh, nuts, before you pull anything see if maybe you had a

mount come loose, and your exhaust is hitting the body somewhere.

Just in case...

ok il have a look,i was under there last week because my shifter plate came loose and didnt see the mount in any trouble but it is a ireland urethane yellow and noticed there yellow engine mounts have been braking(posts by fellow faq'ers)
