Another difference - the early doors are not reinforced with the steel bar to prevent passenger compartment intrusion in the event of a side impact. Thus the earlier doors are lighter. I have 1968 1602 doors side by side with 1974 tii doors which are much heavier.

1968 1602 (body shell)(thanks SCR!)

1973 2002 (parts donor)(terminal NE rust)

1974 Tii (crushed, but rising from the ashes!)

heck, its just another winter in New England - the Tii will live again!!!

the reinforcing bar (side impact) as do all replacement doors you get from BMW Classic. If you're going racing, the weight difference might help, but for a daily driver, the extra safety is worth the mimimal weight penalty.

Just check the door's innards carefully to make sure there is a gap between the door skin and the reinforcing bar. The space is to allow water to drain to the door's bottom and run out the drain holes. Otherwise it'll puddle against the reinforcing bar and rust the door out about halfway down.

cheers

68 doors have a different sized vent window and vent window frame. If you look at the parts diagrams, you will see that they have different part numbers. The 68 frames are a wee bit smaller.
