What did you do? I can probably remove the wrapping (very dirty job) and clean and re-wrap the harness, but dishwasher might be a better solution. I am worried about water damage/potential future rust of connectors.

when i restored my Automatic i took out all wiring, inpsected all connections and fixed what needed to, i removed all the wraping and used simple green in a tub and several rags and hot water to remove oil and glue from old tape.

it ended up very nice, later i wraped it off "like it was" with friction tape (hockey tape).

hth.

Thanks Pat, looks very nice. Did you cover the sockets/connectors with plastic bags during cleaning?

no, they needed cleanup too. i even use some air spray to help the dirt get out of there.

they dried off under the summer sun.

thats how it looked before !!

The main hazard with using the dishwasher is if your wife were to find out.

I'm even careful about using the washing machine for my garage clothes and towels.

If you decide to unwrap them, 3M adhesive remover is a good cleaner. There's also a pre-painting degreaser that works well. I don't remember the name of it but if you need to know I'll go out to the garage & find it.

+1 water is no problem if you dry all the connection directly after cleaning. After all, the conns getting water on them now and then in rainy weather....

Clean them all up and tape them again when they have dried
