I've been bad and have left my 73 2002 tii idle for over 5 years. Basically, I took the plates off and put a cover on it (it's stored outside in Boston) - nothing drained, no stabilizer - I know, I know. The tires and battery are shot of course and some of the rubber under the hood looks dried out.

At this point, what should I do to get it to the point where I could try to turn it over? I've read folks suggesting a few drops of Mystery Oil in each cylinder and giving it a shot....

Would adding stabilizer at this point do anything?

Do NOT try to start the car. The old gas has turned to really bad stuff. If you add fresh gas this gunk will start to dissolve and will clog and kill your fuel pump ($600 to replace unless you find an old one), then clog the fuel injectors and injector pump and possibly cause the pump or a valve to seize, breaking a rocker arm, etc. etc. (gets really expensive real fast). Do yourself a favor and remove the tank NOW. Take it to a radiator shop to have it cleaned out. See if the tank can be saved - if not too rusty. I'm on the North Shore if you want or need any help doing this.
