tried to do the valve adjust on 76 02 tongiht, car wouldnt stay running with .006-.008 gap. Tried again with .008-.010 now running, but very rough. Lost a lot of HP too. i followed steps and made sure cam was flat and pushed car in gear... first try was slightly warm, re-checked when cold and adj again. did i miss somethin? also had to turn distributor, that normal?

You say it ran fine before, and you said you had to rotate the dizzy. Based on these two statements I'd be inclined to think you've got your timing off when you rotated the dizzy.

Re-setting your valve lash, unless you were way off, should not get you the results you've gotten. I'd start by checking your timing.

oh yeah. born and raised. lived in lanikai, went to kailua high, then grad uh manoa, 1973. last there in 2003, but, i dont think i want to go back. too much change. lotsa great memories, tho, and we miss the food. garard bought a 71 2002 there about 6 years ago, original owner bought it from bmw of honolulu new, drove for a couple years, then passed away. it sat for like 30 years, son had rented the house, then decided to sell, and advertised the car. had like 30k on it, no radio, nothing. i remember him saying, "kenny, i had forgotten how much fun these cars are to drive". he was driving it to work every day, kailua to honolulu for a while.

back in the day, there was a lot of parts cars. we used to go to sand island every week and look. then, there was the insurance salvage auction every tuesday in kakaako, and anyone could bid. i got several wrecks there. i even found 2 2000cs cars complete out in halawa valley, which is past kaneohe, going to the north shore. there was an old glas 1600gt that was parked in front of bmw of honolulu for years. ask gerard, he probably knows.
