Which one are you taking to Mid Am?

:P

Kind of surprised you haven't asked me if I made reservations for 2017 Ofest in NOLA.  Is your house the 02 host hotel?

Harmonious set choice.  We should do a side-by-side comparo next year with my Scheels.

Can't wait to see your M2 Kris!   Let's hope the sun gods are in our favor May 2017.  I may swap the Ansa muffler for a stock one.  4 speed + 3.64 diff + Ansa = needsearplugs

Since the recent rains have washed the sno-melt fluid off the roads and the sun was shining, I decided to take the car out for a drive on the last day of 2016.  After stopping by MLytle's "tiny" shop, I headed home thinking about what will be next for the blue car.  It's been a great 2016.  Happy New Year everyone.

Fix/correct the parking mechanism for the wipers.

Get some touch-up paint from Lothar.

Bend/alter the mid-pipe on the exhaust to keep it away from the subframe.

Order a new tii muffler from BLUNT, paint it and install it prior to the trip to the Vintage.

Receive the passenger side seat tilting bracket from GTS Classics and install it.

Route the seat belt shoulder straps thru the headrest so they are easier to access each time.

Order some CoCo mats.

Swap the 14" wheels from the tii to see how it rides.

Secure the center console in a better manner.

Finish connecting the oil pressure switch to the cylinder head.

Readjust the newly installed heim joint accelerator pedal rod.

Change the oil from the break-in oil.

Do a compression test.

Go thru the carburetors again to ensure maximum performance.

Try another advance curve in the 123 dizzy.

Lookin' very  good.  So you're taking it to Vintage, eh?  That should be a fun trip down.  What is the motivation behind trying the tii wheels?

Thanks Scott- just curious to see the differences in steering feel and ride from 13" to 14".   When I borrowed the 15" setup from Marshall on the tii for an Autocross, I could tell a big difference from the 14" setup I normally run on the tii.

Love the new seats Jim.  I've talked to Stefan a bunch, but never done business with him.  He always struck me as a stand up guy.

Your car looks great.  I need to get off my fat butt and get into the garage.

i had the opportunity to see and sit on the new seats today.  WOW!  they look better in person than in pics....and boy are they comfy.  with all the work jim has done on the rest of the car to get it to the level it is, the new seats were the perfect icing on the cake!

They really look incredible in the pics.  Like they came out of a $75K new car.

  • 3 weeks later...

Time to do a little switcheroo in the garage since the weather today has been damp and gloomy.

Cleaned up the wheels/tires on the 69 and also the back ones from the tii so I decided to see the difference in weight between the two sets and how they look on the "other" cars.  The 13" Ronal with Sumitomo 185-70-13 tire weighs 27.5 lbs.  The 14" Superlite with Dunlop 185-60-14 weighs 32 lbs.

That's a total of 18 lbs. of weight between the two cars.  Big difference. I also recently noticed the rear fender lip was much thicker on the 69 compared to the 73.  Don't think a PO tried to roll the lip on the 73 because I can feel a big difference in the width of the lip (not just the position of the lip).

I love the weighing tire/wheel combos idea.  I weighed one of the 5.5" Borranis I have, and it is 15.4 lbs.  I will re-weigh it once it has tires on it, and compare it to my early alloys w/similar tires, just to see what's what.  I should also compare to my factory steel wheel / hubcap, as well.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
