Hi everyone,

I've been looking for a restauration project for a while now. After looking around for VW bugs and MG's, I finally found what I was really looking for: a BMW 2002.

I've found one not too far from home. Mechanically it is ok, but the body does not look too good. The seller seems to be a very honest person and was kind enough to send me extra pictures of the body.

So what do you guys think? Is this one beyond repair? Seller has most of the replacement parts for those parts of that are too rusty, but my question to you is if that will be enough. I've done some work on another car but it was not as rusty as this one. I have acces to a professional welder if I need some help on difficult pieces.

Thank you

I'm certainly not a retired person, more like a student :) .

I've been looking around for a donor body and found one that could do. It is pretty rust proof and the seller gives 2 additional gearboxes/engines with it (although probably broken) + a whole bunch of other parts like doors, hoods, body trim,...

Taking the undercarriage, drive train,... from this rusty one and putting the almost rust free body on top of it could provide a solution.

However I'm looking for a real restauration project. I don't really mind if it takes me severall years to complete it. Most important thing is that I learn (peferably a lot) from it and hopefully end up with a nice oldtimer. I know this means grinding and welding for days but that is part of the restauration I guess.

offcourse if this one is really too far gone...

Some more opinions?

Are you and the car in begium??? Not that it really matters. That car is parts only. Even if you spent a ton of money on mechanicals there are serious safety issues. How about a body from Spain or Portugal...Listen to C.D.

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;

The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,

And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;

But there is no joy in Mudville — mighty Casey has struck out.

That car looks like taking a fat chick for a ride would break it in half. Heck, do what you want. Replacement

sheet metal alone will cost more then decent car. It's a hobby, if you want to put $10,000 worth of time and

parts into a car that will end up being worth $1,000 it's where I live.

I wouldn't touch that body with anything but a sawzall.

Around here, there are still pretty clean shells for small(ish) money,

if you look for a while.

Now, as a driveline donor, sure, but $500, tops. IF the interior is really nice.

But that's here. In the UK, for example. it's going to be a different story....
