I have the 74-76 (late) style bumpers and wanted to know if there is an easy way to replace the screws that hold the front and rear rubber pieces to the fender/quarter panels. There are supposed to be three screws in the front and two in the rear, but I am missing a few. I was contemplating drilling through the rubber and inserting new screws, but wondered if you might know of a better way. Thanks,

Brian

IIRC, there are (3) studs that secure the accordian rubber ends to the quarter panel on the square light cars. I think I used a 10mm socket to remove them last Saturday. You might be able to replace the studs in the rubber sections - not sure though.

MLytle still has the bumpers with rubber ends we stripped from his Purple/Malaga '74 - send him an e-mail if you want them!

The tiny screws that hold the rubber "shelf" filler strip to the rear panel are sometimes a PITA to remove if they are rusty. I think I used a 7mm? socket on them. BTW - same size screw holds the fuel filler surround to the RR quarter panel.

If you take the front accordians off the bumper (obviously easier with the bumper pulled)you will see the configuration for a metal plate embedded in the rubber.Just make a triangular incision just outside the benchmark holes that are there close to the two studs. You can get something under the plate and apply upward pressure while you fillet the plate from the rubber. Lift it out and you will see hao the plate anchors two 10mm carriage bolts--if you can't find those just use 1/4" but use galvanized or stainless this time. Clean up the plate, refit the new studs.replace and lock down with black rtv---It doesn't take long--it's a satisfying little bit of surgery, and you're back in business doing it right! If you would rather just buy a set--i have some as well--- Brent---scoyote@shaw.ca
