So i found an 82' 320i with the front and rear ends complete. I am getting the rear drums from the backing plate forward. Ive got the calipers and rotors on order from out of state; However, How do you get the front hub off the spindle / boot? Would i have to take it to a machine shop and have them break the welds and pull it from the spindle? Do i just replace the entire boot/spindle/hub with the one from my 2002 (it didn't look like it would do that)? It would be nice to buy something in town for once and every one i have called says that they don't sell the hub all alone.

Any other parts I should be looking for that would be worth buying off the 82 for any future upgrades (Minus the alternator, I'm getting that too)?

Thanks for your help

I think you're having a terminology problem.

The hub is the part with the threads for the wheel bolts in it.

It bolts (with one little 6mm hex cap screw) to the rotor. Sometimes they stick.

It pulls off the SPINDLE (which I think you're calling the hub)

when you undo the nut under the bearing cap (which is in the center of the hub)

You just need the 320i HUB, not SPINDLE, to put the 1977 320i rotors

and Volvo 240 vented calipers onto the fron.

No weld, just bolts. Trim the backing plate a bit, and use .070" or .080"

washers as spacers.

clear as mud?

Hi Harmps--

Here is Jeff Ireland's instruction sheet for his BBK. These details are correct, including for his Girling Volvo calipers that have their mounting holes redrilled so the pads have more disk contact area.
