I need some new plug wires. The ones on my car just might be the original ones. What are the extra wires that comes off the coil plug for?

I haven't seen this mentioned in any of the replacements sets I have seen for sale.

Does your look like this?

If so, save or reuse it. That original ignition stuff is really rare. You seldom see it on cars or even restored cars.

The extra wires fed a diagnostic plug on the passenger's side.

Yes, that is what is on my car. The wires are very stiff and the connectors are quite brittle, but I will keep these.

What does this stuff do? I guess the orange connector is some type of crude diagnostic port? Maybe my 72' is OBDII compliant!!

Yes,those feed the diagnostic plug on your valve cover. most cars still have the orange diagnostic plug on the driver's side.

I reused the coil wire and placed the inductive pick-up over the new spark plug wires. I installed the plug and the integrated wire holder back on the car.

You may also notice, there was an original ground strap between the coil bracket and the valve cover that is also gone on most cars

Yeah I have that one too I think. Well I guess I will keep mine pretty stock for now. Any suggestions for stock looking wires and connectors?
