Is this unknown part preventing my car from starting???

I need help identifying a part that fell off of my car the other day. I went to start it up and heard a metal on metal sound like something fell off of the car. I couldn't see anything because it was 5:30am but afterwards, the starter just spins and whines and won't even engage to turn the motor over. It attempted to start as normal when I first turned the key.

So I'm thinking I need a new solenoid and it's time for the sr441x?

Today I found this part covered in motor grime when I rolled the car into the garage. Can anyone identify this? I'm really thinking this is what fell off of the car but I have no clue what it is....

I have no clue about the part, but it does sound like you're due for a new starter. You will like the lightweight SR440X.

the part looks like an alignment shim used on suspensions, aftermarket, not part of the starter problem
