a neighbor has had an 86 325 sitting in his driveway for years. original owner who just stopped driving the thing a few years ago. sat forlorn. did not want to part with it for sentimental value.

he finally decided he had to get rid of it, so I went over to check it out for him and try to get it running. (he is not mechanically oriented). jimG joined me for the fun, as usual.

checked all fluids, installed my spare charged battery, powered up the electrics. shocked, most everthing worked. turned key. starter works great, no start. hmm. check fuel pump. no sound. rap it a few times. turn key...vroom! actually a little too much vroom. throttle cable stuck. kill engine. get oil fill throttle cable housing and work it back and forth until free. idles nice!

drove it up and down street. everything works pretty well. (it is a 2.7e with auto trans. think it needs new fuel pump and injectors. possibly afm as it has no power above 2000 rpm.

car has 145k miles. zero rust. decent blue paint with blue cloth interior. all original everything.

owner has not decided what to do with it yet.....

That's a pretty cool effort, and you just tripled the car's in-situ value...From boat anchor to motor vehicle....But he really should cut that grass, as it's gonna bog down his mower...

I only wish you guys were closer as I have an e9 that is in need of similar service...

Good work. Having sat for so long without any care, that car is not worth much though. I "brought back" an '89 black four door auto California E30, but it took a whole lot of work. The son of a fellow I work with bought it and it has been a wonderful car. I learned a lot from that experience.

BTW - build date is July 1986.

Fuel pump "buzz" was pretty loud. Car ran suprisingly well for sitting for over 1 year.

That's not regular grass. It is an ornamental shrub with sharp edges - name escapes me at the moment.

auto-x sat morning.

drop old trailer axles sat afternoon and start painting.

and you are more than welcome to have a go at the e30 (needs name..) with the buffer. all the black scum is gone. just dark blue paint with no shine...and no rust!

sunday...probably rain so either work under trailer or put e30 in shop for diagnosis and more cleaning. it runs like crap.

I'm on it!

Trying to come up with a name - having trouble.

Somehow, Blue-by-you doesn't fit.

Blue Bayou due to the mossy stuff?

Babalouie ?

Vinny Barbarino from Welcome Back Kotter?

Wow. Looks new. I am sure JimG's buffer will do a nicer job, and be easier, but I wanted to find out what the art of the possible was.

Down side. Driver seat is trash. Frame is broken.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
