2002 Rear Seat Ideas

Raccoon

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of having my interior done and was looking around for some rear seat options. I was thinking of having the upholstery guy make some rear buckets modeled after the early M3s using the original 2002 frames. But that is still just an idea. What do you guys use? Or any photos of cool set ups? Let see what you guys got.....

Pretty easy. You need to cut off some excess fiberglass from the back, but leave the notch for the hook that is on the back side of the car. Once you get it right, you tap a couple of screws on the bottom of each seat and done.

The scariest part is cutting the fiberglass, or making sure you do not overcut. There are excellent instructions somewhere around here with pics. I got the whole set for less than $200. And they are way more comfortable than the front E21 Recaros

Here's what I just did using the original 2002 frames. Wanted something low key and yet custom. German vinyl, Perf. centers, smooth outers and double vertical rows of orange stitching that match the Inka exterior. Seats were foamed to make buckets out of the rear....turned out sweet.

Great job modifying those stock rears.

I am loving that e24 rear seat assembly.

Anyone use anything not BMW!! I know it's blasphemy but maybe still keep it German? Any Porsche seats fit?

another benefit of the E24 rear seats is the rear passengers actually get more leg room than with the stock seat. The E24 rear seat backing is much more shallow than the '02's spring back. They are super comfortable and leather, also match the E21 recaros(same as early E24 recaros).

Porsche rear seats are like two tiny child car seats. Pretty much anything can be fit but nothing will look as good as a reupholstered stock rear or E24. Even the M3 rear seat, it just looks awkward in an old car.

Anyone got a good write up and photos documented for modifying to fit the E24 rear seats? I picked up a set and will be installing it too. I like how the pattern matches the E21 front recaros. I checked the search, but wanted to see if someone had modified extra brackets or what not...Thanks.

I followed faquer helvelin's procedure:

Start cutting carefuly and as you get more comfortable cut more. It is easier to cut more a bit at a time than to overcut and be screwed.

Wear a mask.

Wow, you did a great job, that's a nice interior! Are the front ones in matching color scheme and perforated too?

Here's a few shots of the front seats. Same style as the rears, perf'd centers with orange stitching. I was looking for a cool take on the standard seats and couldn't be happier with the results...............

Thanks for the pictures of your modified stock seats...Very tasteful and nice attention to detail.

And thanks for the link to cutting and modifying the E24 rears. I think I am going to go with the E24s. Can't find any at the moment and my car is officially gutted so I am racing against the clock to find a set..
