Guest Anonymous
Okay, here's what I have done... 1972 2002 -new rubber filler neck -new sender "O" ring -new rubber fuel line -"european" vent (vent line from filler neck goes to rubber line then through the floor with rubber grommet). -replaced tii tank with used standard tank Still smells like gas when I open the trunk, or open sunroof/window. Any ideas would be appreciated. Gary
Guest Anonymous
Used tanks may leak there too! Check your return line to the tank (if non tii's have them). It passes thru the passenger compartment. Cheers, Ray

Guest Anonymous
check behind the back seat to make sure the foam plugs in the upper corners of the seat back (just under package shelf) are in place. If you have speaker cutouts in the package shelf, they can let fumes in too. Neither of my 02s have a gassy smell even in the trunk, so it ain't normal... Guest Anonymous
URL: http://www.zoomnet.net/~specautoparts I found that the wood can absorb odors which concentrate and give you a nice whiff when you open the trunk. When you are sure the leak is plugged you might want to consider cutting yourself some new boards and getting new vinyl.

Guest Anonymous
Thanks for the responses... I do not have a return line. Everything is out of the trunk (ie no trunk boards). The vent tube is clear. Any suggestions for checking for leaks (other than blocking off the vent tube on a hot day and using a match)? Gary
Guest Anonymous
I just restored my tank. The seam was a rusty mess, and I had some pinholes. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to pull your tank, repair any damage, and slosh it with some sealant. Martin '73tii

Guest Anonymous
This is a perfect example of the utility of this board. Now I guess I need to look at those seams.....
