Yes maybe I should be racing an IT '02 but Spec Miata has 4 advantages: extremely competitive series, absolutely bulletproof car, Mazda offers racers cheap parts, the Miata is faster (laptimes).

I had a blast building the car but competing is unbelievable. Lap after lap of cut and thrust action. And the upside, I am learning to do sheet metal work!

...did you do the work on the car yourself ? I'm guessing so by the pic of you in the engine bay. Couple of questions:

How are the Miatas to work on and convert to race spec?

How much would you say to get up and running all inclusive?

I bought the car in late December 2002 and took it to driver school in early February 2003. I stripped the interior, had the cage put in, removed all the allowable stuff, totally rebuilt the suspension (new bushings, etc.

If you can work on an '02 you can do most any mechanical you need to on a Miata. I've got about $10K in the car, including a new motor, clutch, cage, suspension, etc. and a lot of late nights and weekends.
