Muffler tuck-up help please

I've searched the forums and can't find the info i'm looking for, so I apologize in advance if this topic has already been covered.

My muffler hangs much lower than I prefer. The car is using recent rubber muffler hangers that are not stretched or damaged. The muffler hanger mounts welded on the car look original and in good condition. Yesterday I loosened the center resonator and rotated it, but I didn't get much improvement.

I've seen cars on the FAQ with nearly invisible mufflers. Any tips on achieving a cleaner look would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

James

Yeah, that would have been smart of me. Here's the pic. This pic is from Feb when the car rolled off the truck. There were no plastic inserts in the rubber hangers. That is probably part of the issue. Also, I'm interested in getting it tucked up better than stock. I've seen some cars with almost nothing except tail pipe showing. Curious on how to achieve that.

TX plates .........Nice looking car.

Where in TX did the car come from?

In response to your issue, you may want to convert to a tii muffler. Tii mufflers are oval in shape and do not hand as low. Purchasing new rubber/donut hangers will help. Again nice car!

Loosen the front three fasteners on the center section, get yourself a couple new hangers/inserts, and then try bending the tabs on the muffler down to raise the muffler itself up into the recess. Just feel around and jiggle to make sure its not hitting the car anywhere. Then be sure to resnug the front three fasteners.

Car came from Dallas (bought from Andrew G) in Feb. Here's a pic with new wheels and tires, 320is recaro interior, Nardi wheel, Euro flushies and a few other things. I run it with the front plate to salute the great state of TX haha. Car is scruffy, but I luv it. If I can tuck the muffler up, I think it'll look tight.

BTW, these tires weigh only 8lbs. They are Federal 205/60/13 and are imported by Legends Racing association. They are available at your local Legends Racing supplier for $99. There is a thread on it here.

Yup, when I rotated the center resonator, I loosened those fasteners. I'll try your idea of the inserts and bracket bends. Where can I get the inserts?

the underlined words in my last message are a link, but here, I can still paste it. Blunt has them at a better price I would imagine.. Get new rubber hangers too, if yours are stretched.

Thanks Chris - work in progress for sure. Looking for one Cibie headlight and mirrors. Next winter i'm gonna drop new shocks and struts, replace all the bushings and do complete brake job. Maybe, maybe drop in a Getrag 245.

Attached is the almost finished result. I still have a little adjusting to get the tailpipe in the proper position. While I was at it I painted the muffler and tailpipe with hi-temp black paint and installed a new chrome tip. I'm pretty happy with the result. Thanks for the tips.
