Servicing the tachometer

Driving today And noticed something was off. I know how my engine sounds at 4500rpm but the tach said 3500. Driving in 5th at 80 i was running 2600rpm..again off. So I hit the dash a couple times and the tach bounced up to 3600 where it should be. Then driving it kind of slowly sinks back down to where it shows 500-10rpm less than it should. Obviously this is not an electrical issue. Sounds like dirt or dust weighing something down maybe. What is the best way to clean and service this tach

I'm not as dumb as I look

Nick -It might just be the center electrical connector is loose.

Have you removed the cluster before?

Pulled away from the dash - you can see the double black wire for the tach connection.

While you are in there, paint the inside white, clean the glasses, wipe the dust off the gauge faces and replace all the bulbs.
