How far in does the clutch slave stick in?

Man that topic sounds bad.....

Anyway. With the tranny (5sp, e30 clutch and TO bearing) mounted together and looking at the old worn out slave cylinder on the bench, how far in should it poke till the TO bearing touches the pressure plate? I'm measuring 42mm from the slave mounting flange in the bell housing.

Is the 323i TO thicker or thinner?

Here is the one that came in a e30 325i clutch kit vs the one that was sitting in this old 5speed.

You know, I bet you're one of the first to actually measure...

the 228 clutch is thinner than the 215, so the 323 should be longer

than the 320... but many have said it doesn't matter much.

You can measure the clutch slave fully compressed and see how

close it is to your dimension. I bet you're ok.

no help here.

the e21 323 t/o bearing(21 51 1 204 525) is 6mm longer than the e30 325(21 51 7 521 471), and is normally used in the 5 spd conversion with the 320 5 spd

OK

Start with this,

Realize it has the wrong throw out bearing in it.

Ask the collective if I really need the 323i throwout bearing.

Yep you need it. The consensus is that the standard one MIGHT work but it won't work right.

Order the 323i bearing and take picture for all to see (its the one on the left)
