Less than 24 hours after sending an email to get the build date, etc. on 73 tii # 2764445, Herr Harz responded.

"

The BMW 2002 tii US VIN 2764445 was manufactured on July 10th, 1973 and delivered on July 24th, 1973 to the BMW car park. The original colour was Agave, paint code 071.

At first the car was scheduled for delivery to the US but it came (or may have been never delivered there) for unknown reasons. Unfortunately there is nothing else known about the further history of the car.

Nevertheless we hope this information is helpful for you."

Nice.

an overseas delivery order for a US buyer that needed to be filled with a certain color/option pkg, and your car met the requirements. Betcha someone wanted a roundie tii, and the production line was almost ready to shut down for the August break to re-tool for the '74 models.

Overseas delivery could have been ordinary tourist delivery, a sale to military stationed overseas, or to US diplomatic personnel.

Too bad you don't have any paperwork--factory maintenance booklet, etc that could give you some clues.

You have a pretty late '73; production ended with VIN 2764521 so you have one of the last 100 roundie tii's built.

cheers
