Wiper help, they wont stop

Scott, sounds like your wiper stalk switch may have gone bad and is stuck in the "on" position, regardless of where the stalk is positioned. I have a few old stalks w/ switches and wiring harnesses still attached that were working when removed. You are welcome to drop by the house and get one to try it out and see if that's your problem. Just call me before you head over to make sure I'm home. Tim

wiper motor itself is boogered up. IIRC the motor has two hot leads; one that's controlled by the dashboard wiper switch, and the other that is hot all the time with the ign on, and goes dead via the parking mechanism; that allows the wipers to stop at the bottom of their stroke even after you turn the switch off.

The parking mechanism is inside the "tunafish can" that's at right angles to the motor itself. If you remove the three cover screws you should find two contact arms that ride on two circular brass tracks that rotate as the wiper motor runs. One track is interrupted so that when its contact hits the insulated portion, power is cut to the motor and the wipers stop, conveniently at the bottom of their stroke.

Bet you'll find one of the contacts bent/broken and touching the other so power flows all the time...

check it out and report back.

Mine is a '68 so it has a push/pull knob instead of the stalk. At least that's what i'm assuming because the stalk doesn't move in and out.

Sorry Scott, but I can't help you with that particular switch.

Probably a short in the park circuit.

I replaced my wiper motor a few years ago, and somehow it's wired backwards, so that with the push-pull switch beside the instrument cluster, what used to be fast is now slow and vice-versa. Someday I'll get around to fixing it...

Wipers won't stop

(if there's a "most useless reply of the day" contest, here's my entry...)

What about a drive to where it's raining?

Yeah. You just know there is someone, somewhere in the middle of a downpour that can't get his wipers to run.

Sort of the same logic I use when there are people that are too warm and people that are too cold in their workspaces. I tell them to trade places.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
