as it turns out the car was not as advertised, the craigs list ad (Newly rebuilt

top-end, new raditor ect.) were complete and total lies , the pics sent to me were years old, no recent reciepts , rusted rocker panels and rust many other hard to fix areas

the car is worth $ 4,000 as a core for a restore but think about

rebuild engine

rebuild trans

Interior

Complete body repair repaint

if done by any resonable shops it still adds up to $ 25,000 plus cost of car

so I drove from La Jolla to San Francisco the long way and had a good time

stayed at the new Mariott in San Jose , the Hempcon convention was next door at convention center very cool

sorry to hear about the bad news..it seems the car you are seeking has eluded you once again. At least you had a good time while out there though.

My 2002 was manufactured on September 15th, 1971 and delivered on October 22nd, 1971 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Granada, paint code 023. It was sold on New Years Eve December 31st 1971.

Not trying to be a jerk, but... you could probably have saved a trip by getting a pre-purchase inspection with photographs for less than the price of your hotel room alone. Something to consider, at least. I know I've wasted plenty of time looking at cars that weren't nearly as nice as described.

Also: not being snarky, but you could save yourself a lot of trouble. Just contact Larry Wilson in the Indianapolis area and buy his Chamonix 320i. It is excellent. I drove/rode with him to & from Mid America '02 Fest last April in his E21. Only one caveat: he removed the a/c, but I believe that he has the a/c parts tucked away. Honest, fair, reliable -- and he did most of his own wrenching on this car and on his other BMW's. He is much more technically oriented than me; he can fully explain why this is such a fine example of the 320i.

+1 You will not find another 320i that looks as nice as Larry's. I cannot understand why it hasn't sold yet (advertised in Roundel).

I've never seen Larry's E21, but I did buy an excellent set of wheels off of him about two years ago. Very honest, fair seller!

no you are not a jerk, you just asumed I did not have a inspection

I can not disscuss the inspection becaus the mechanic was a friend of owner and really as specific as I would have wanted and he did not read the craigs or ebay adds so he could not contrast the two

thanks for the interest

I have ads in 2002faq for a year as well as roundel and all

state im looking for a 2002, not a 320i

a 320i would be a nice daily driver but, im looking for a potential show car

why ? because I walked into a bmw dealer year ago and thought a

bmw for 38k ? Id rather spend that on a 2002

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
