Rota RB vs. Panasport

Recommended Posts

Weight, certainly.

Can't speak to strength, but Panasports are really really tough.

And really quite pricey- Last I looked, you could by 10 RB's for the price of 4

Panasports...

Hey Toby,

What is the difference in weight between the two wheels?

Panasports 15x7 vs. Rota RB 15x7

I would think that Minilites are the lightest and probably also most expensive.

There has been a ton of conversation about this on the miata forums. Both wheels are a little over 14 lbs.

What it boils down to is the over seas foundries can make stuff in pretty good quality for a lot less than the usual wheels.

I talked to the importer for Rota. He said many people take the RB's and clear coat them for added protection.

I was thinking of buying the panasports on the NASA board. He wants twice as much for a set that have been poorly painted. I figure I could just get a set and replace them in a few years and save the money.

Also the Konig rewinds are fairly inexpensive. Also the chaparral seem pretty good and inexpensive.

Hell, I have no idea- just that the Panasport 13x6's are well under

#10, and the 13x7's are just a touch over...

I get mine used when they pop up AND I have $$$...

which is infrequently these days...

a 13" wheel is always going to be lighter than a 15", but the tire should weight less.

If you look at the miata table, the panasport 13" is 9 lbs. The 15x7 panasport is 15.85 and the Rota RB is 14.

I'd still like to believe there is a value with the panasports, but I just can't find it.

What others haven't mentioned, the Rota's definitely have a different look....well, I mean they look the same, but you can pick them out in a crowd is what I mean......and whatever it is that makes them slightly different looking, I don't like it for some reason.

I do have panasports on my car...though i'm not biased to that brand, I have Superlite's for my Cortina etc. Though, if I were wanting that style....i'd probably be buying the Rota's as I couldn't afford Panasports right now...so ya.

I looked at both and for various reasons decided the Panasports were probably a better quality wheel in terms of finish. No objective basis, just an accumulation of datapoints. When Blunt said his 15"s were available, I snapped them up.

Visually, the center circle on the 15 inch Panasports is slightly larger in diameter than the Rotas so if you like the more open look, the Rotas will give you that. Rotas I think also come in more color choices.

Both look great. Good luck.
