Ignition Switch (73 BMW 2002)

My ignition switch makes a continuos noise when inserting the key, car cranks fine but buzzing is still present ??????

......zzzzzzzzzzzzz" like the starter motor is still engaged after the motor fires ???

72 and later 2002s came with an infernal buzzer that "reminded" you that your key was in the ignition with the door open. It also buzzed to let you know your seat belt wasn't fastened.

Two ways to fix it:

1. remove the dome light switch from the driver's door frame, and remove the wire that doesn't light up the dome light. That'll silence the buzzer.

2. Remove the lower part of the steering column surround and remove the buzzer itself--looks like a small relay with only two terminals.

Either way, be sure and tape the terminals because one of them is live.

Nanny silenced; problem solved.
