Another early 1600 escaped from Craigs list

Recommended Posts

I saw this particular car yesterday on LA craigslist, just received word from the seller that it's sold, and he took the ad down. I emailed the VIN to bmw, the response:

"Thank you for your email.

The BMW 1600 VIN 1515181 was manufactured on January 26th, 1967 and delivered on February 7th, 1967 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Caribe, paint code 059."

I could tell the car had a grey interior, which really makes me think that all Caribe cars originally came with it, because I haven't seen one without it except for mine.

Unfortunately for this car, part of the firewall was ripped out and there was some GM monstrosity sitting in the engine bay, looked as if it hadn't been started up since the car was parked, likely in the 60s or 70s. On top of everything, the car was a nasty lime green sort of color, and it had molded fender flares on it. It did however, still have the front dimpled hood trim (which is why I was originally interested in the car).

Sad day, it also had an original black plate!!
