Engine rebuild question

Recommended Posts

I'm currently rebuilding the bottom end on my 02 and came into a little bit of a questionable area.

I'm at the step where I measure the oil clearances on the crank with the new bearings. Problem is:

The main bearing caps don't seem to want to fit back in their old locations. Do I force them in or lightly file away some of the metal so they fit with only light pressure?

Legend in his own mind

They should fit with moderate pressure.

Thy're an ever- so- slight interference fit.

You can pull them down evenly with the cap bolts...

Getting them started can be a bit hard- gentle use

of a lighter dead- blow hammer's ok.

Don't file- that would be... bad.

and they go in dry on the backside - or just a very light film of thin oil - they don't move in use and grease on the back would change the tolerance.
