Alternator Question?

Recommended Posts

Running a 95 amp now. I've got upgraded almost aircraft quality headlamps. (not kidding. They turn night into day. Really) No driving lights, no fog lights. I have an upgraded stereo (no amps). I have an M3 starter upgrade and recently added an MSD ignition system from Racetep. ( Still in the shop )

Do I need to get a 130 amp Alternator.

Thanks

I have all of the same, and additionally fog lamps. I have an 80 AMP alternator and it all works perfectly. (I have halogen headlamps, 90W hi beams.)

If your lights are 100watts ea, they would be dragging 8.3 A ea + other bulbs approx 5 A, then 7A for the MSD. So well less than 30A, you are fine.

A 95A alternator won't actually put out 95 for very long before it overheats, besides I am sure your wiring wouldn't be up to it either.

No.

You need a voltmeter.

If it goes below 13.5 at cruise, you need a bigger alternator.

If you don't, you don't!

it's that easy

Thanks for the input.

I'm adding an AC unit from ICE Auto next week also.

Thanks
