Are these the correct rocker panel clips?

Recommended Posts

Upgrading my aluminum rocker panels and in my search to locate replacement clips i noticed that the clips that were on my car are quite different from the replacement ones i've been finding.

I've uploaded two photos. One has the broken clips removed from my car, the other the new replacement clips.

Did the previous owner have the wrong clips on my car?

Top clips are the correct ones. What do you mean upgrade? Im in need of the drivers side rocker panel. Do you got one?
Mine are functional but old and beat up. Found new ones for $50 each and am going to get them. If you are in Los Angeles you can have mine. Just have to pick it up.

Here is a price comp, I just bought some from BLUNT, $30 for all the rocker trim fasteners.

Lower Trim Fastner kit.

14 plastic clips  1.09

2 t bolts 6.88

2 nuts .89

Careful now. The center clip in this pic is not correct and will not hold securely.

The number i have for the clips is: 51 13 1 829 904

I think I'll try to polish my rocker panels using Bar Keeper's Friend instead of spending the $100 for new ones.

The synthetic weatherstripping is so expensive. Will try to keep my old ones. Missing just the short pieces at the front of car on both sides.

Still, be sure the clips clip tenaciously.

#19 is what you need:

http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=2583&mospid=47141&btnr=51_3379&hg=51&fg=20

HOWEVER, they are a tad small. we have complained to bmw forever. make sure you have t bolts in really good condition, and if you can reuse the old clips, at least a few, that helps. but them suckers are loose

Hey Ken have you seen the clips i removed before? They actually were a very snug fit. I didn't realise the proper clips were not great and unfortunately removed all the old ones.

yes, i have seen them. all i can say is that wherever you do get the clips from, there is only 1 supplier. dont shoot the messenger
Do you know what the order number for them is? I've ordered the correct clips but if the fit is loose and flimsy i'll order the old clips i referenced from you guys.

the problem is you cannot get the old clips any more. what happens is bmw quits producing them, the original vendor throws away the tools and molds. then, when mobile traditions was established, bmw started reproducing some of the long since nla parts. so they have to get new vendors, make new tools, yada, yada. and some of the attention to detail is just not there. one of our jobs here is to send feedback to mobile traditions. since i have been reprimanded before about what i post(if yale rachlin was still alive, and saw this, he would be cracking up), i will leave it there.

Oh no, so i had some cool old vintage clips that worked great, that i yanked assuming the newer or "correct ones" would be better. Hilarious.

Hit up your local (or not so local) suppliers and see if they have any old stock. I found almost enough that way!
