1972 2002: Now with Megasquirt/ITB Goodness.

Recommended Posts

I started off with a basically stock 2002, riding on steels with hub caps. It's gone through a re-fresh to make it safe and fun; then on to a pretty complete overhaul. It still looks ratty on the outside and partially inside, but underneath the skin, it's a blast!

Forgive the public Facebook links, but there are only about 9 zillion photos. Give or take.

The first set covers from day one through March or so this year. It shows the car going from basically bone stock, to getting a suspension refresh, 32/36, stereo and other goodies. The next two sets are the 261 (!) photos taken by Patrick at Midnight Motorsport in Seattle while he did a 5-speed/LSD swap, new shocks/struts/springs, boxed trailing arms, 40 DCOE single side draft, big brakes, yada, yada, yada. Enjoy!

Now...what's next? Maybe those coilovers pictured above? Rebuilt head? :)

Very nice work. Is that an AFR guage monitoring a wideband O2 content on the exhaust? I'd be interested in knowing the AFR values your DCOE carbs give at idle, cruise, and WOT. Have you replaced jets?

It is a narrow band afr meter right now. The tuning process is ongoing and in the early stages. And just to be accurate, I only have a single DCOE. The carb is being rejetted, but the final setup is not complete.

What did you paint the taillight housings with?

I met Patrick a week or two ago, it was nice to see his shop and talk to someone who clearly knows what they are doing and doesn't take shortcuts.

Hopefully I'll see you again on the PNWCCA drive, I hear it's the 15th of August this year. Gotta get more 2002s on it!

Yeah, he said you made the drive up. That dude does great work. Plus, if you hang out long enough you'll learn some stuff. So I'm learning this stuff about 25 years late...

I believe the paint was Dupli-Color CS-101 Chrome Instant Enamel. I was at Russ' (BlindRhino) house and the paint and blaster cabinet are his.

And I'm planning on being there at PNWCCA again. Hopefully this year I won't have a guibo bolt back out on the way home. And this year, I'll actually show the car. Why not?

Two small jobs:

Pebbly grain shift boot (to match the knob)

Roundel horn button

I also replaced my kidney grill with a better looking one. It is also held on with some fabbed clips. No more machine screw holding the grill on from the outside. Pictures later.
