Tip For Those Seeking 205/60-13 Tires

Recommended Posts

I went with a set of Toyo RA1s after not being able to find anything decent. Probably wont last long but they are a fun tire. Drove thru some serious standing water in Chicago last night and it was a little sketchy though.

This excellent "205/60 13" discussion has presented us with some truly handsome and beefy tires for our '02's.  The discussion prompts me to ask:

(1) Are these 205/60's mostly for larger/non-stock rims, e.g., 6x13and 6x14?

(2)  Are they for routine driving/street use?

(3) What is the widest tire likely to fit well (without rubbing) on stock 5x13 steel rims of a '74 tii?

I am in the process of replacing 185/65 on 6x14 Panasports with 185/70 on 5x13 reconditioned original steel rims and need new tires for the steels.  I am thinking 185/70 is an overall good choice for the original steels (and b/c several of you have recommend them on this site).  You guys are correct:  13" tires now are widely available and are inexpensive*; however, they are not very exciting*.

*excluding Michelin XAS and Pirelli CN32!

BTW, are the aforementioned two truly handsome classics (and Vredesteins) really good tires for contemporary 2017 use on our cars OR good in the '60's and '70's and now only really cool?

185/70-13 would be a fine choice on 13x5 or 5.5 or 6 wheels on an '02. Some of us like to squeeze as much rubber under the fenders as possible. By most tire size vs. wheel charts a 205/60-13 is advised to fit on 13x5.5 to 7".

Tire companies used to have recommended tire width for wheel width charts, but this is what I found on the internet with a quick search. Hope This Helps.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
