Redline MTL vs. Royal Purple Synchromax

mtl.jpgVS synchromax.gif

Does anyone have any experience to share with these? I know a lot of people use Redline MTL, but I might be able to find Royal Purple Synchromax locally. Any information and/or musings would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Royal purple is excellent. i run it in my JDM Skyline GTR and it really helped with the synchro issues that plague these transmissions.

either one will be more than enough so buy whichever one you can get your hands on.

I recently wrestled with this for my LSD diff. I am an old Redline user (love it) but needed oil right away and Royal purple was available.

Did the searches and saw only favorable reviews. Probably 1K into it and no problems, leaks or anything. Nice and quiet...

Hope this helps!

The thing to remember is that transmissions and differentials are different animals and subject to different stress loads. In fact even the viscosity classification is different but that's another story.

The gear faces of differentials are subject to extream pressure loads and require additive packages to help deal with the loads on the gear faces.

These additives are typically sulfur based and it is the sulfur that harms the brass syncros. Go ahead ask me how I know.

If you go with a transmission specific product, which the Royal Purple product is, and I'm not sure about the Red Line stuff, you don't need to worry about brass syncros.

What do you mean you don't have to worry about synchros when using transmission specific product? The transmission is the only place that has synchros not Diff. There you just need to worry about LSD compatability if it applies.

I worry if GL4 and GL5 will work well with GL4 only transimissions. I like redline because they have fluid thats GL4 and different fluid that is GL5. It makes the distinction very clear.

Also I've called redline and talked to them. I bet royal purple techs could tell you if it'll cause problems with brass synchros.

Redline is great. I put redline in the 02 years ago (transmission). No problems. Also using Redline in the diff, and redline 15/50 in the car.

I've never used the Royal Purple fluid. I do use RP oil in both the E46 and Momma's R50. RP 5/30. Good Stuff. Plus - RP is made here in Texas!

I think you'll be fine either way.

At work, we use Royal Purple brand Synfilm GT lube in our Roots-brand blowers. We buy it in 5 gallon containers.

I'm sold on the Redline MTL tranny fluid but it loves to seep out of my 4 speed tranny.

I usually use the products that the Owner' handbook, and Repair Manual

specify - and I don't recall ever seeing the above two mentioned in your 2002 literature

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
