I always viewed driving songs as something calm and feel-good rather than a song that makes you drive around like your hairs on fire. I always thought once I get my 02', this is going to be the song I listen to when I drive it:

driving

You have to wash your car before you drive it.

http://www.guitar-tube.com/watch/paul-gilbert-wash-my-car

Same song in Inka.

After you wash your car, you can drive that old Chrysler to Mexico, boys.

(entire song, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRiHmzUXcVM)

This is one of my favorite links - settle in, this link has 100 of 'em.

Dear Mr. Fantasy by Traffic, very relaxed song for driving.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_nwbTeIN4Y

Always a good one.

Sometimes I'm in the mood for "hair on fire" music while driving, but most of the time I nike it a bit more mellow.

Green Day: Brain Stew/Jaded "My mind is set on overdrive, the clock is laughing in my face"

Cake: Race Car Ya-Yas

Cake: The Distance... "Bowel shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse"

Led Zeppelin: Ten Years Gone

Mad Season: River of Deceit

Primus: Jerry Was a Race Car Driver: is an old standard because sometimes I feel like driving in a mosh pit. :)

Primus: Tommy The Cat. Sorry 'bout the quality of this version, it's just that I've seen them at the Greek Theater in Berkeley more than once. :)

Album version of the above.

Primus: DMV... also filmed at the Greek Theater UC Berkeley. Please excuse the "PC" version "When I need relief, I spell it THC".... "I sit back and smoke away huge chunks of memory, call it pointless....."

Now, I haven't toked in over 12 years, but still love the song....

But my favorite Primus songs are.. Over the Electric Grapevine...

... and Southbound Pachyderm.

BTW, if you like or are liking Primus, here is an awesome set of videos!

The Mike Ness song in the first post reminded me of this one:

Social Distortion - "Highway 101"

(or really anything by Social D. Not all car related but nice to drive to none the less.)

At times when I want to drive like my hairs on fire (or maybe if my hair was actually on fire):

T.S.O.L. - "Man And Machine"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0rUbNqxDG0

Technically this one's about motorcycles but it's also engine related at least:

U.K. Subs - "500cc"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7URZvA7zWU

That's all I can think of at the moment. For what it's worth, +1 on all those Primus songs recommended above.
