Strut Gland Nut Tool DIY

Sacrifice an old crusty pair of channel locks. Drill as close as comfortably possible to the inner surface and put two drill bits through to the nut. Cover the strut piston and tool with tape for protection against marring.

I use this for Bilsteins, but I'm sure you could use this for stock gland nuts if you pick just the right sized bits to fit in the holes.
