OK..ANOTHER 292 cam question

Recommended Posts

Since I am having to rebuild my motor again and getting the head pulled apart to be inspected I figured maybe its a great time to swap to a bit larger cam. right now I will have 9.5 comp, 284 cam 38/38 carb. Daily driver with fun weekend outings. I like driving in the 2500-5500 rpm range. Right now it seems like my motor starts to flatten out a bit at about 4200k or so. Still pulling but not as hard

Will the 292 require releifs cut in the pistons? My new Maxsild do not have reliefs cut for valves

Now later this spring, after Mid America I will be installing my 318EFI, 325Tbody, Microsquirt controling AFM, Spark advace etc.

I know there are a lot of opinions but just hoping to hear what may be the best direction for me to go

First off, the stock cam starts to come ~4-4500 RPM. Max HP@5800 RPM.

The 292 will shift the power curve upward from there. The 292 should be a good match for the pistons you have. G

Carb might not be though. I ran a 38/38 with stock cam and it pulled nicely thorugh. Maybe its time for sidedrafts?
