Guest Anonymous
URL: http://www.marsmann.com/2002tii/ so far, I've not seen one 02 with a heat shield of any kind on the gas tank which strikes me odd as the muffler is right next to it... I may fabricate something....

Its a curved piece that wedges between the tank, and the trunk floor. Hard to describe, but really simple once you see it. Sorry, but I don't have any pics, and my back is too screwed up to take any right now. Al
Guest Anonymous
Yeah, there is a piece of sheet metal with a lip that fits under the gas tank flange. It runs fore to aft between the tank and muffler and has a length wise bend to wrap it around the tank along with two rubber bumpers that contact the tank. Probably not be hard to copy if someone nearby has one. I'm in SC

Guest Anonymous
I've never owned anything but roundies...and never, ever have I come across that shield on any of 'em....add'l insulation throughout those later cars is due to higher exhaust gas temps in (infernal thermal reactors, etc) is my guess. Your tii shouldn't have one. Paul MAximill...
Guest Anonymous
easy enough to make one from a piece of scrap aluminum and sandwich it between the gas tank and it's mounting lip... Mike
Guest Anonymous
My 74, that I have owned since new, does not. I believe only 75 -76 had them. Earl Myers
