Guest Anonymous
What's involved with widening some early style 13x4.5 steelies to 13x5 so they fit over tii calipers? Anyone recommend any wheel shops in PA/NJ/DE/MD, and what's a normal ballpark price? thanks, Dr. Rocket Science
Guest Anonymous
try and find a salvage yard with some Opels in it--the later (71 on) Opel Mantas and station wagons used plain steel wheels in the 5j-13 size--same mfg as the BMW wheels and BMW hubcaps even fit. They also made styled wheels for the Opel GTs and slotted chrome ones (!) for the earlier Opel Rallyes. The other possibility is (really don't laugh this time) Chevette--5jx13, proper offset and cheap as dirt in junkyards. Much cheaper than widening a stock wheel... Guest Anonymous
This is because the Chevette was/is an Opel design. About the time it became too obsolete to sell in Europe, GM brought the tooling and specs to the US to replace the Vega, since they didn't trust Chevy to design another masterpiece. The vast majority of new GM designs worldwide are actually Opel, since they need good designs to sell in Brazil, China, Russia, etc.Don't know if this leads to any other parts exchanges. Old Opels used to have a nice VDO Rallye gauge set, volt. reg., relays, etc. that fit 2002s, but I would think they are all picked over by now (early 1970's cars). Guest Anonymous
and if you want flash, you could use the chrome Opel Rallye wheels or the styled ones from an Opel GT...
