Any reason to go with the 4-speed in stead of a 5-sped aside from availability?

Oo okay. For some reason I thought it was the 4-speed attached to the M20 powered e21's. Good to know.

It should bolt up to my m20, and with a bit off good old 5# hammer massaging, fit into my tunnel as well. The mounting points will be slightly angled do to the way the trans will bolt up, but that is easy to correct with the right trans brace.

Cheers from the German!!!

Thanks!

I just ordered a whole mess of m20 refresh parts from Steve at blunttech.com

I also got my engine stand in the mail today and put it together. This weekend will be spent cleaning and painting the bottom end.

Pictures soon.

Cheers from the German!!!

Got to cleaning the motor up today. Started stripping it down more, cleaned the oil pan and painted it, and cleaned the top end off a bit.

I am going to continue tomorrow.

I realized I forgot to get a few things from Steve when I put in my last order. Who needs a alternator belt anyways? hahaha

It is also nice to see what a dishwasher can do to a oil pump! I am going to have to sneak more parts into the dishwasher later on.

Got some more work done today.

I took some more stuff off the motor. Right now I am still trying to get the front crank shaft cover off, but I am having a hard time pulling part of the crank shaft pulley off. The oil pump pulley came off easy. Ones that sucker is off I can finish cleaning and painting the block.

Whats the best way to get the freeze plugs out?

Valve cover cleaned and painted.

Cleaned of the oil sensor thingamajig.

I get sick pleasure out of doing all this cleaning and reassembly! lol

It really is satisfying.

Sadly the rain cut my progress short today. Hopefully it clears up a bit tomorrow.

Cheers guys!

Got some more work done today. Finished cleaning and painting the block, along with sticking the oil pan back on. I also cleaned the oil filter housing inside and out. Sadly the seal kit for the filter housing I ordered from Blunttech did not show up in the order so I could not put it all back together yet. I think the seals got confused with another part when I placed my order or something.

The drivers side motor mount has one hole that is not quite right as well, so I will have to do some work on that next weekend.

Dude, you have it on upside down...rotate it 180 degrees, the portion that stick out should be in the upper right hand corner, not lower left.

Btw, that block looks really good, what color paint?

Hahahahaha lol topical me! Well that saves me a lot of work!

Thanks man. The color is some sort of VHT silver engine paint. I threw the cap away so i can not tell you what the exact color is.

I like it.

More work will be done this weekend. I need to find a good machine shop in near me to look over my head in SF, but I need to order my cam first so they can install it for me.

Cheers from the German!!!

Sorry...

Got my new HOMAK BK01032101 3-Drawer Tool Box yesterday. It is raining really hard today, and the rain keeps blowing into my shed sideways while I am working. I can not make any progress till this passes and I get my lower timing cover in the mail some time next week. It looks like I am working steady Monday threw Friday as well.

Sins I could not work on the block, I spent some time wiping my tools down and putting them away in their new home.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
