Whoever assembled the engine last used studs and nuts instead of the normal bolts. Too long, one punched a hole in the steel plate that covers the breather area of the valve cover. No big deal, so what. Then he patched the hole with a piece of comic strip from the paper and epoxy glue. It had almost fallen off inside the engine. Makes me wonder what other surprises lay in store for me.

except even the most inept are allowed to buy such things.

To quote Mr. Bell ~"a stud is an engineers decision while the bolt is an accountants decision"

...the Prepare/Engineer/Tune To Win book series. I

think it has something to do with the tensile loads

placed on the block/head by studs versus bolts. If I

remember correctly, studs put a more even and

stronger load on the parts. If ya get a chance,

check out the books...they're a great read...just

wish I could remember the specifics off the top of

my head.
