Hi, im currently undertaking a total restoration of my 2002tii and im in search of a new pair of rear quarter panels. The car has square rear lights but I believe the new panels that are available from BMW are for the round rear lights. Im after a new pair and not second hand off a salvage vehicle.

remove a square taillight from your car and you'll see the half-moon cutout for the round light underneath the light assy...

BTW if it's just the lips around the wheel openings that are rusty, you can buy complete patch panels for the lips and weld 'em on. A lot easier than doing a whole quarter!

My car already has the repair panel around the wheel arch, but the workmanship was rubbish as it resulted in heat distortion across the panel. I'm in favour of replacing the whole panel.

Cheers

butt weld the seam with a MIG...about half the time was spent letting the metal cool down to avoid the distortion you mentioned.

I receipts for the previous blokes pain. Here i am four years later with the far rear passengers side bubbling and exposed.

I have covered it with rust enhibitor of a similar colour for now - till i plan what body bits to get/my plan of attack. (see nasty URL link)

Someone posted the URL for a great German supplier - lots of panels, including the rear arch lips. Anyone still have that link for Divyesh?

Good luck mate

there is a metal reinforcement for the 2.5mph collision requirements, and the taillight mount holes are predrilled, but the roundie panels work just fine, and I have 2 pairs of nos quarters in Northern Il.

Thanks to all of you out their that have responded to the maessge I put out for Quarter Panels. I've not used this forum before and was told about it through a 2002 friend..Jay Keole a 2002tii A4 owner. Its great to know there are still loads of 02 enthusiast out their..great! Anyway, back to the question of quarter panels, im undertaking a total body strip down and rebuild so new quarter panels are really important for originality. Their must be some german or us 02 agent out their that can help. My most recent enquiry with for new panels in US quoted me $815USD per panel plus shipping...im sure I can get a cheaper quote from a german supplier.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
