Problems getting the strut out of the strut housing.

The drivers side was easy, but I am having no luck on the passenger side. I removed the cap that locks the strut in place, but there seems to be a metal spacer that has fused itself to the strut housing making it impossible to get the strut to come through the cylinder. I've tried heat, prying with screw driver and ice pic, and clamping the entire top of the strut to a vice and pulling on it. Any advice or suggestions appreciated.

it's not a spacer - that's just the top of the shock insert

tube -

try CAREFULLY heat from a MAP gas hand torch-

warming up the top of the outer strut housing -

large channel lock plyers gripping the insert and twisting

it free

if this car has had any impacts? - the outer tube housing

might be bent and your inner shock insert will never come out

Just one of a million things that we can't tell you on this

long distance guessing game show.

YES - DANGER!!!

that's why I said CAREFULLY!!!, DO NOT HEAT THE BOTTOM

of the strut housing - that might cause a rocket launcher

effect depending whats trapped inside the housing between the insert?

so please just heat around the threaded top of the housing

possibly drill a 1/8" hole about 3" down from the top of the threaded area

to drain out any nasty fluids that are inside there.

Wear PROTECTIVE GLASSES, BODY ARMOUR, AND KEEP THE SMALL CHILDREN & FARM ANIMALS AWAY AT A SAFE DISTANCE INCASE

SOMETHING GOES REALLY WRONG!
