Moving Battery to Trunk - Half-way There Question

So, I'm moving the battery to the trunk. I have installed the E30 cable from trunk to engine compartment where I've bolted the E30 terminal block to the front of the washer bottle plate. So far, so good. In the trunk I will ground the battery and connect the positive cable. And, under the hood, I plan to just connect the existing positive battery cable to the new E30 positive terminal with an extender. Here's my question: what's the smaller cable which runs alongside the main E30 battery cable? It's now bolted to its own spot on the "new" E30 terminal block in the engine bay. Do I connect anything to it?

i dont know what generator/alternator you are utilizing but that small cable might be used to power the generator. i use a e30 318i generator witch features an internal voltage regulator this generator has 3 male pins sticking out. i think 2002 origenally used a external voltage regulator. i made my own battery cable. i dont like the idea of using 18 year old battery cables at best- 26 years at worst?

If you're half- way there, is the battery in the front seat?

(sorry, couldn't resist. Yes, it's a charge wire. Keeps the E30

alt from overvoltaging when cranking, or in the event of a connection problem)

Ha, good one! Soon I'll have it in the back seat, and maybe today actually in the trunk!

So, I guess that little wire doesn't hook to anything (electrically), right, other than the bolt on the terminal?

Here is Zenon Holtz writeup on how he did a under back seat battery install. Though I would change some of the connection and wiring details this article gives you the idea.

AGM battery under passenger side rear seat is the way to go. i will be converting my car to this config soon.

lighter

better weight distribution

agm battery emits no gas (a big problem with putting a normal battery in the trunk it MUST BE VENTED TO THE OUTSIDE.)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
