So I take it that all of that stuff that is "NLA" isn't really NLA. Just NLA to slobs like me......

'Cause if it was really NLA, they'd only be able to build about 3/4 of a car....

Ken, if you didn't get to hunt & beg hours on end for NLA/NOS parts on ebay, CL, garage sales & friend's basements, what fun would it be?! ;-)

Don't forget the "fun" of breaking something and finding out it's NLA.

Or the number of times you see a lump of rusty part and say "yeah - I can restore that".

Thanks for helping me see the bright (or not so rusty) side Scott.

I got the idea that they actually took some items off the NLA list after this project. "Over 20 items were introduced into the spare parts catalog" they say (around 5:20 in pt 2) for used seat upholstery. I still find it amazing the number of parts that are available for these cars directly from BMW.

Can anyone with access to the BMW spare parts catalog (Blunt? c.d.?) confirm this? Do they issue updates to what's been added/removed to the catalogs? I'd be interested to see what they've added over the years.

I got to drive that car--for a Roundel story--when it was new back in 2006--at the Lime Rock historic races. It really was built with new parts--except for the engine, tranny and diff; they were all factory rebuilt units. I think the factory found a new body shell somewhere in Germany, but all the other stuff was available either NOS or from Mobile Tradition

And it really was like driving a brand new 2002. Great fun!
