That's a nice engine bay. Those plug wires are nice and tidy.

BTW, I have the same bar from Wolloth. Nice piece. Good job Ray!

Ray, have you tried to fit the bar on a '75 or '76 2002? These late USA 2002s have their windshield washer bottle mounted above the brake master cylinder. If you believe that the bar will fit without moving the washer bottle, please put me down for one... and painted black is my preference. Thanks! - Larry

This is a good point -- my interest is also conditioned on the bar fitting an unmodified '75 engine bay.

I just saw a pic of the later engine bay and it looks like the bottle is sitting too high. But I'll verify this weekend. Thanks for the note

Ray, I would certainly like to try fitting the bar on my '75.

For what it's worth, I made some aluminum reinforcement plates that are 1/4" in height that sit on top of the inner fenders and are bolted down with the upper strut mount/strut brg. assembly. Maybe this spacer under the strut bar would provide some additional clearance for the washer bottle. The studs should be long enough to accept my thin custom plates as well as the strut bar.

I was thinking the same thing. On my 70, the plate is barely sitting on the edge of one of the bolts on the adjustable GC camber plates. But it is almost max out on camber to so it's the extreme. The plates would solve that issue. I don't have that issue on my 73 which has IE adjustable plates but it's also not as low.

schwarz75, do you happen to be in SoCal?

I'm in Indianapolis. The '75 2002 is in storage, but as soon as the roads are free of snow I'll have it back home.

I'm curious about fitment on a late car now as well. I just reinstalled the bottle, so I completely forgot about that.

And at 2+ Lbs, what kid of rigidity will this actually add? What is the wall thickness of the tubing?

Keep us updated.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
