I have got the nut off but dont know what the next step is. I need to replace the rear main because it leaks but does anyone else have any good ideas.

I decided after getting the seal in the mail that I would remove the rear cover ( 5 10mm head bolts) pound it out and pound in the new one.

My decision was made due to the type of seal that I got. It was in no way shouldered so it could be pushed in too far or not enough. Out of the car and on the bench it was a snap.

Down side... removing the gasket from the transmission took a little time on my back scrubbing with a scotch brite pad. If you have a die grinder with a sanding disk attachment and scotch brite disks to remove it (I don't)without damaging the tranny housing it may be a different story.

DO THE SELECTOR SHAFT SEAL AND SHIFTER REBUILD WHILE THE THING IS APART

sorry to shout but it'll be worth it to do those too since it's cheap insurance, and the labor of removing the drive shaft again to get to the shifter mounts, linkage, and seal will no doubt send you feverishly cursing your car.

Good luck... Bill
