Re photos of my car. There afre many photos of it during the restoration process at Sports Car Restoration llc (Matt McGuinn). I haven't been on their site in a while so you may have to search the earlier photo files for them. The VIN is 1660472.

1968 2002 original color Granada, now painted Bristol/Granada!

Are the 67 vin plates marked with the year of manufacture like my 1968?

9825b4e4.jpg

No, I guess pre-68 there was no full-year stamp like that. Probably because the true "US spec" cars did not come until 68. Pre-68's only had a MPH speedo to differentiate them from the Euro versions. Everything else was the same as Euro, even the stickers were all in German.

I believe only US spec 1968 1600-2s & 2002s have the year stamped on the VIN.

1967 and 1969 & later did not.

Hey Jeff, you're right next to me in Saratoga. We need to meet up! I see your VIN plate is pink metallic too, like mine. I've debated wether they were originally black as some say, or this color or a similar color in 1967 only. I suppose they could have faded to pink, but why would some fade and others like the 68 2002 plate above be totally black? Anyone else have a non-67 car with a pink/faded VIN plate to disprove this theory?

What a great color Caribe blue! And to think hardly any came here in that color. You mostly see White or Biege colors. Kinda like today's silver/grey colors dominating the market. Caribe and Florida have to be my two favorite 02 colors.

Your car's got that late 67 early 68 mix of parts going on. 67 emblems with 68+ bumpers. Does it have the chrome dash or the normal 3-piece?

OK, time to bump this thread and ad a few more cars to the list...

This '67 1531152 has been stripped for a G-Production GP SCCA racecar build. Too bad all the cool parts seem to be missing, like the chrome dash pieces and badges etc... Though it was late enough to have had the license lights in the tail panel and not in the "euro" bumpers. Being a "153" or earlier it still has it's original 6-volt large split snorkel nose clip.

Pictures here:

Another '67 closer to me, I've even driven and worked on it has also been modified but retains much of it's '67 specific parts... And is a hoot to drive with it's built 2_liter high compression, 300 cam, 45DCOEs, close ratio 5spd etc!

P.S. both of these are for sale. I can be contacted for info on the one I've worked on/driven. It's located in Sacramento CA.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
