heater box fitment across model years

I own a 1968 2002 needing a heater box rebuild. If I find a unit from a later 2002, what years will work for my car?

I took one out of a '70 and put it in my '74. All I had to do was change over the controls/cables,etc.

On a side note,I've read in various sources including web forums and European Car Magazine about how hard/time consuming this job is... I dont know , but it took me all of 1 hour to remove the heaterbox from the donor car, remove the box from my car switch over the controls and re-install back into my car. As far as heater cores go this is as easy as it gets!

nipples, so the heater hoses were smaller in diameter. Also your '68 has a three lever control setup, with the heater blower switch on the instrument cluster binnacle. Later heaters (mid-71 and later) have four levers--the fourth is the blower switch. Not terribly difficult to convert--use a copper sleeve and a short length of larger diameter heater hose to convert, and extend the blower control wires so they'll reach from your 68's blower switch to the right side control. Later heaters also have three speeds; your '68 has only two. Thus you may have to add a wire for the third speed.

My early '71 has the blower switch as a pull-switch beside the gauges, but it has four positions: Off, Low, Medium, High. When was the switch?
