Headrest re-stuffing - anyone done it?

I bought new seat sets from World Up. and was pleased to see new headrest covers. I finally took my old ones and clipped the threads holding the opening together. Then I muscled the crap out of the metal frame and got it out and equally pushed, pulled, crushed and otherwise man-handled the formed foam insert.

I got it out, but I was hoping for any advice on getting it back into the new covers... without tearing the new opening!

If anyone has done this, are there any tricks? Can the foam be "warmed" in a low oven or with a heat gun to make it more compressible maybe? It is fairly rigid material, especially the hard side pieces.

Anyway, I know this is an obscure question, but one of you smart '02'ers has the answer ;)

Randy,

I've put new headrest covers on, bought them from World Upholstery as well and had some sore finger tips after that but don't know about replacing the foam as the pieces in my '76 2002 were still in fine shape. With all the different types of foam/poly-foam, etc..probably something out there pretty managable.

Thanks Tim and Esty,

I'll try the hair dryer approach... I plan to re-use my original foam since it, too, is in fine shape... although a bit musty smelling ;o)

BTW... Esty, my carpet set is down to the final install of the center tunnel piece and then the floor items.... my re-done seats are just "jones'in" to be installed. Looks awesome.. thanks again.

If, by zipper, you mean the cloth strips on either side of the opening... no... that seems to be the only difference from my originals. Instead, the World items just have the vinyl edge... which I guess I can pull the two together and use some thick upholstery thread and sew a few stitches across to close the opening.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
