Who me?

Unfortunately - not much. I was trying to make a big push to get the 72 Mini running. Re-built and tuned the HS2 carbs - but I don't think my goal of license plates by the end of the year is going to happen.

The 2002 has been running great since I swapped to the 130 amp alternator. Had a minor issue with the fan belt. Had the alternator adjusted to the end of the adjustment bracket, and the belt was barely tight. It would squeak when hot. So - went to 1 size smaller, and that solved everything.

Changed out all of the fuel injectors on my Porsche. I swear those fuel rails have not been out since 1984. What a pain. Anyway - it's done. Car is running better.

So - all of the above took about a month to do, as I only get an hour here or an hour there......it's frustrating sometimes to see all the parts lying around, but nothing getting done. Oh well.

Later,

Thanks for the update Ken - glad you are keeping busy with all your projects. Did you put a different set of injectors in? Were they new (easily found)?

There's actually a pretty cool story around the fuel injectors.

New Bosch fuel injectors are available from Porsche - for about $240 an injector. No thank you.

I bought 6 used ones from another Porsche guy for $40. I sent them off to Witch Hunter Performance in Washington.

Amazing. They get them, check them all for resistance. Flow test them all and chart them. Then - they put them through a multi-step cleaning process. Replace everything that is replaceable. Re-run all of the flow testing. Chart it all and send them back to you. For $19/injector. They were able to repair 5 of mine (one had a broken pintle, and was junk). Cost me $100. Bought a remanufactured one for $55 to replace the broken one. Then - pulled the ones in the car and sold those 6 for $50. So - for about $140, I have all "new" injectors in the car.

I tried to get the guy that bought my old ones to send them to Witch Hunter for cleaning, just so I could see the chart and see how bad they were plugged (and which one was plugged). No dice. Oh well.

PS - I like the adjustable height cart you have.

Strange that they let to take photos at the Classic. Normally they don't. You can see the no camera signs in the pictures. Classic collection is something amazing, lot more than the BMW museum itself.

I traded some e-mails with Scott - the photographer:

"Ken,

Thanks for the kind words. I was able to go on this tour as I have a good friend whose father worked at bmw for many years, and he set it up for us.

Glad you enjoy the pics. I'm a huge BMW fan and I had such a blast there, and I am very grateful for the opportunity."

He also sent me the color photos of the 507! Beautiful.

Finally - I sent him a link to this post. Maybe we'll get a new FAQ'er.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
