Loctite 573 - Transmission Output shaft flange

I've replaced the output shaft seal on an 1982 320i 5 speed that is be going into my '02. In perusing my repair manuals, the single bolt at 1:00 on the output shaft flange apparently requires Loctite 573. Green stuff. It was in there when I removed the bolt. Searching the web, it's available but is really expensive. Does anyone know it's purpose on this bolt and whether there is a common alternative ?

Oh well, solved my own problem. In discussing this with the Loctite Customer Service staff it appears that Loctite 573 has been out of production for some time. They recommended Loctite 518 as an alternative gasket eliminator. In looking for that, it comes in 50 ml tubes for $15-$20 or 6 ml tubes for $7. The smaller ones were hard to find, but I eventually did through a Loctite distributor. Will see how it works....
