How do I adjust the heater valve cable?

Recommended Posts

So for 2 years now the heater cable has been out of adjustment...when I open the valve it doesnt fully open and when I close it it stops about 2/3 of the way. Under the hood when the lever says its fully open, I can manually open it about another half turn...this could be the reason I get lukewarm heat...so how do I adjust the cable??? Do I really try and get some pliers in that tiny space next to the fan motor and loosen the bolt then try and tighten it? Before I did that I wanted to see if there was a trick to it.

one hand in there to loosen the

tiny nut and screw - which pinches the cable

Great care not to break the plastic tab that

the water valve is mounted on. Once you have

the pinch nut loosened, you rotate the valve

to fully opened position, and make sure the

TEMP control lever on the dash is also

over in the FULL HOT position - and then you

pull the cable through the pinch screw making sure

it and the water valve lever are both in the fully

opened position. Then you snug up the pinch nut.

Again, you need great patience and a good right hand with

a bright light to see by.
